Sunday Shuffle
The opportunity to try shuffle board presented itself this weekend, and being open to trying new things, I was game. I showed up, ready to play. They gave me a lesson, and I was good to go. I met new people, in a great new place. And we won! Just one game. Not the whole tournament. :D
Facebook connected me to the opportunity, which took place on Sunday November 12th at Forest City Shuffleboard. The Sunday Shuffle Tournament was hosted in conjunction with Cycle For Survival, a movement to beat rare cancers. 100% of the funds raised on Sunday will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering, a rare cancer research hospital.
Turns out, the organizers and I were old acquaintances, brought together by a different kind of boarding (paddle). Small world, Kelli (she's the one holding the baby) is friends with Hilary Gent (HEDGE Gallery @ 78th Street Studios), to whom I just sold paddle boards. Lyndsey Needham (hat!) was a student in a paddle board class I taught a few years back.
You never know what kind of adventure awaits--or who you'll cross paths with!--when you get out there and try something new.
